Flood Waters Engulf Several Neighborhoods in Houston, Texas

On Saturday, flood waters submerged several neighborhoods across Houston, Texas, following heavy rainfall. Emergency crews evacuated over 400 people from their homes.

The flood monitoring efforts will continue into Sunday afternoon, as meteorologists predict further rainfall and a potential major flood in Harris County, the third largest county in the state, which includes Houston and surrounding areas.

As of now, Houston authorities have reported no fatalities or injuries due to the heavy rainfall.

Harris County's top elected official, Judge Lina Hidalgo, stated on Saturday that so far, 178 people and 122 pets have been rescued within the county.

The flood waters spread across a wide area from Houston to the rural areas of East Texas, where airboats were used in waist-high water to rescue people and pets who were not evacuated in time.

Dozens of rescue operations were conducted in the neighboring Montgomery County as well.

In Polk County, about 100 miles northeast of Houston, officials reported more than 100 water rescues in the past few days.
